If you had Covid and still are experiencing symptoms beyond 4-weeks after your initial infection, you likely have long-haul Covid. Not all those with Long-Haul Covid have experienced a loss of smell, but if you have, we understand it can be quite frustrating.
What has been found is that the loss of smell can go on as long as 4 months to a year without self-resolution. Researchers aren’t certain how the virus causes olfactory dysfunction, but there are three therapies that may help.
First, you can try Olfactory Training. Olfactory Training is a series of significant odor qualities that you expose yourself to multiple times a day. This can be done any number of weeks to months. There are numerous training kits you can find online.
A second treatment, that actually has been shown to work better when done in combination with Olfactory Training is Vitamin A Nasal Spray. It helps to regenerate the olfactory neuroepithelium. As far as use, its best to use daily for at least 2 months. It cannot be found over the counter, but can be prescribed by your doctor and compounded by a compounding pharmacy.
The third therapy is Theophylline Nasal Spray. It should be used in a low-dose, as higher doses can cause adverse affects. It also needs to be compounded by a compounding pharmacy.
As a compounding pharmacy, we can help, so long as we have a prescription from your doctor. You can see our latest Instagram post and follow us for more updates on this, us, and current health topics!
